Who We Are
Founded in 1936, the Portage Lakes Yacht Club (PLYC) is one of the oldest clubs in the greater Akron, Ohio area. We focus on sailing small lake boats (under 20'), most of which are Interlakes, lasers, Snipes and Sunfishes though owners of other boat classes are certainly welcome.

PLYC operates from an idyllic location on the north shore of Turkeyfoot Lake, the largest of the seven connected lakes and reservoirs. Our waters are part of Portage Lakes State Park, managed by the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

PLYC's sailing season starts in April and ends in October. During those months, our members can enjoy sailing with family and friends or simply enjoy the beauty of area watching lake activities from our club's tree-shaded grounds.

While some of our members enjoy sailing our waters for relaxation and just plain fun, many of us enjoy fun and excitement of testing our skills at racing. We typically race in season on Sundays and holidays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the time period when Turkeyfoot Lake is specifically reserved for sailing.
